Lens repair question

I just took a sad drive back from my local camera store and it was determined that my 70 - 200 needs to go back to Canon for repair. While it only costs $20.00 to send it, I am wandering how much it will run for the repair. I know there is no magic number, I am just looking for a ball park. It still fully functions but there is a slight focus issue that makes everything a little soft. Any one had any experience sending lenses for repair?

If it's under warranty, it should be free.
I'd expect such defects to be covered.

If it's out of warranty, I'd recommend calling and talking with the tech to explain the situation and see. I wouldn't expect it to be too costly for calibration like that.

If nothing is wrong, it's considered an adjustment. The last time I had something done, it's about $150-$250 (on my 70-200) and $15 for return shipping, free if it's under warranty.

Costs can range from nominal, for a minor adjustment, to significant, for an older lens or a lens with internal or external damage. Canon should contact you before repairs if it is significant.
