Between 1907 and 1915, Sergei Prokudin-Gorski, the royal photographer for the Tsar, toured Russia shooting 3 frame B&W images with RGB filters, that could then be projected simultaneously as a full color image 30 years before Kodachrome.
These negatives were ultimately acquired by the Library of Congress, and finally digitized and exhibited here
These images are worth examining, to appreciate how lovely 3 B&W images can be combined to yield color images, and to give a glimpse of pre- Revolutionary Russia.
