Interesting what the DOF is doing at f1.8. Nice BOKEH to that lens.
The BW is very appealing as is #1 for your test drive work out.
I'm not 100% in love with the Bokeh of the f/1.8. Seems a little harsh/crisp to me, not buttery smooth like my 70-200 f/2.8. I haven't used one personally, but I'll bet the 85mm f/1.2L is very smooth. Alas, the cookie jar is low again and that $1,900.00 price tag assure a spot for the f/1.8 in my bag for some time

Well then... how much in love are you with the BOKEH?
Not really seeing a bad harshness to it myself.
Do you suppose the harness your seeing is somehow associated with PP? Sharpening? Something else?
I won't be spending $1900.00 on any lens anytime soon. I'll scratch by with
what I have for awhile for sure. Will confess I super splurged and spent
a bundle for a William Optics 110 Megrez ED and Orion EQ mount. Sooo not
like me to come off the cash for something like that. I was out of
character for one day and I've been in trouble ever since.
The 3rd photo is my favorite. The eyes of a horse speak to you .. kind of like a dogs eyes. Hope that didn't sound strange, but its what I see
Mary,
This horse (which is not mine) was starved for attention. Ran right up to me. He stood there looking into my eyes, as I was his, for the longest time. Trying to figure each other out I guess
If he was trying to read my mind, I'm sure he came up with a blank white sheet

Well Michael,
I'd give the bokeh about 75% of my love
I did very little processing to these images, nothing that would affect that.
Here is an example of smoother bokeh that I'm after. Notice how fairly smooth the blend from one tone to another. Decent... but, that's due to me being so close to my subject, and the bg being so far away.
Now, let's look at this shot. The bg is still a long way from my subject, but because I'm not really close to my subject, the tonal transition in the bokeh is not as smooth. It has a pretty hard delineation between the different tones. My 70-200 f/2.8 is buttery smooth at f/2.8 under most situations.
(I don't doubt that someone will come along and state that this is incorrect, but that's my take on it)
Now, about your purchase... I have no earthly idea what all that is, but I'll take your word for it that it's worth every penny
Hmmm.... delineation. I suppose if I really look very hard I could possibly
say I see what you are referring too. Believe me I'm trying to see it
clearly but it is not that distinct to me. Probably these eyes of mine.

Starved for attention and running right up to you -- my bet he was saying to you "Take me Home" and he saw you thinking "Wish I could".
No blank white sheet for you -- I have the feeling your a thinker
Randy...#1 & #3 are my favorites, while #3 gets my top vote! I really like the sharpness of the horse's eye! It is that sharp that I can see your reflection. Probably from all the attention you were giving him/her, he/she was wishing he/she could go home with you!

Gary,
Thanks for your comments.
Since it wasn't a serious relationship, I completely forgot to check on the he/she issue

1&3 are my faves. 4 kinda looks like the horse is biting down on the barbed wire.

Thanks Serrator,
Kind of looks like he was watching the sunset.
Thanks Andrew for commenting
really like those first two, specifically the back lighting on the chin, just really drew me in.
Good looking Horse, sounds like a new weapon in Arsenal:D:D:D
Getting ready to head out of town, maybe we can get together
and shoot some after I get back, I'd really like that.

Hey Craig,
Thanks for the kind words.
When you get back, send me a PM. I'd enjoy shooting with you

Maybe I'll have to visit again and shoot/process some, Western style.
