    Russ,

Some nice images. They're reasonably sharp and well exposed. The two biggest things to work on are:

    1) watch for cropping off feet

    2) tighter framing. There's a lot of unnecessary dead space in these.

Both of the above are reasons I'm not crazy about landscape framing with short lenses. The perfect example is shot 8. You've cut off his feet and have all kinds of dead space on either side of him.

The old adage is still true: frame tight, crop tighter.

    Thanks for sharing.

    John

Thanks for the advice John. I'll shoot more in portrait at the game this Saturday and we'll see how they turn out. This was the first game that I used my Tele 1.7 for most of the game. It turned out pretty well. I used my D700 with a 35-70 and the D300 with the 1.7 until it got pretty dark. It really turned pretty well for a poor man's 300. Unfortunately because of the 1.7, the best I could open her up was f/4.2 I think it was. Someday, I've got to figure out a way to warrant getting a 300 F/2.8 to the wife. That would sure be nice! Lubbock is too small of a town, so we only have one camera shop and they don't rent lenses. So, I would be out about $150 to rent a 300 for a weekend from one of teh big rental companies.

300 2.8's are well worth the money. I love mine.

Very nice photos, quite crisp with nice saturated colors.

Respectfully Russ, didn't you storm out of here, calling us all a bunch of a**holes and declaring you would never darken Dgrin's door again becasue we didnt all comment on your portfolio in your time farme?

    Cooler heads prevail?

oooh, I love this one. I bet #28 does too eh? With all the pounding and pummeling in football, I often forget to get the reaction. This one is cool.

Good stuff Russ! The 1.7 explains some of the "slightly" soft images, but they are still rockin.

You know better, number those images! :D

I'm kind of shocked you haven't taken that plunge yet. You've seen with your own eyes, that's a staple lens of both industries you're shooting in.

Take the cash from the North Dakota deal and find a good used lens on FM. clap.gif

A few days later my buddy Ian, the Mod here, informed me that most of those reads were probably from guests on Dgrin and they couldn't leave feedback unless they joined Dgrin. I didn't realize guest reads counted. I then came back to the thread and apologized for my loosing my head. I was really, really wanting to land this football shooting gig and I had to turn in my album on that same day. So, I was stressed at the lack of feedback. I ended up not getting the job. Which is fine. It obviously wasn't meant to be. It gives me another year to work on my technique and I also talked my wife into me getting a 300 F/2.8 before next season starts. So, I'll give it another go next year. Hey, thanks for remembering me though. Haha

    Russ:

That's a nice level headed reply to a potential attack thread. I am impressed you would write openly and honestly. Thanks for taking the high road here, I am always pleased when others do that!

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

Thanks brother. This is my usual demeanor. Unfortunately, I let the stress get to me when I wasn't getting what I needed fast enough and I went KooKoo in the head and acted like an Ass. Luckily, my pride isn't worth giving up this forum, So, I swallowed it and asked for foregiveness from those that I offended and just let it pass.
