Hey guys,

I started using the Slideshow style on my portfolio pages and I am finding that the images are not always resizing the slideshow container size. For example, the first image almost never fills the slideshow box. :dunno (It seems a little better when I slow down the slideshow speed...)

Help!

The first image never will. We grab a pre-made size for the first few images, then we make custom sizes to fill.

That's cool. I tried replacing the first image with a faux loading image, but now it shows a small version of the second image.....

This would be a bug, as this is not acceptable for a professional website. Can it be corrected? I am having the same problem.

    Bump.

Sorry to be a stickler for this, but even the free flash galleries I see don't have this problem. Unfortunately, this problem makes the flash slideshow virtually unusable from a professional standpoint. This really needs to be corrected.

It's not a bug. It's by design, so that the first image is served up instantly fast, not requiring the visitor to wait.

Andy, my site uses a custom stretchy slideshow on the homepage. And to be honest, I think I provides a faster, better experience than the smug slideshow theme. The theory of a pre-cached and sized image makes sense, but in practice I don't see any real speed difference. My homepage show is fast and has very consistent slide timing on all browsers(another minor issue with the smug slideshow).

Bug or design, I genuinely believe it needs to be re-thought. It looks bad and for a professional website, it's unusable. I'm using it now because I don't have another option, but I'm looking for alternatives.

I agree. The inconsistency of the behavior makes people (viewers and customers alike) think something isn't working right. If you don't want to change the default behavior, then why not an option so we can say we'd rather sacrifice a couple seconds (if needed) in order to have consistently sized images.

nod.gif Options are good. Maybe the slideshow could have it's own elegant progress bar for those who don't use a splash.
