Mike & Nicole - M Session
Let me give a hand to those who shoot people primarily, this was tough and I did not have fun. I don't have great equipment, two flashes with a remote cactus trigger. The mum to be was hard to get a natural smile from and pops didn't want to participate to begin with. I shot for 5 hours with them and came away with about 45 keepers that aren't near as good as I have seen, anyhoo, here are my samples.

I'll start with my standard disclosure--I'm new, as evidenced by my smugmug gallery, but I know what I like when I see it--So in that vein:)
Really like #1and #2--I like the idea and I like how they look, specially the soft filter used on # 2.
#4, not so much--there is a disconnect, and not crazy about the filter on this one and it's a little bright.
#5 I really like the concept of the shot--wish her eye wasn't cut off by the table--and it looks like they are staring each other down.
#6 I do like this one plus the PP, love that you got those expressions, wonder how it would look with a tighter crop.
#7 and #8--like the silhoutte shots.
#9 I've seen this type of shot on many E-sessions, but I do like it so much more with this M-session. Arms seem a little too bright.
I can see what you mean about maybe the couple not really being into some of the shots--difficult situation to be in, but you still got some really lovely shots. Funny that the best ones (IMO) are the ones where their faces aren't showing .

Thanks you two, yeah, 5 hours was long, we took about 45min for lunch on the way to the park. Their apt was dank and dark (and messy too) I used the white vignette to detract from the corners of the walls that showed up, otherwise they look to snapshottish to me. I could get away with that time due to the fact that it is my b.i.l. and his wife was goading him to do this, even though she was hard to get any decent smiles from. I don't usually shoot people unless it is impromptu portraits at events or sports and I told them to hire somebody to get great shots, alas, they decided to use me for free. Could I have planned a better day where the sun wasn't causing hot spots and cruddy shadows, sure, but I have other things to shoot and do than that and while they wanted these done, getting the time with them was not easy - whats a guy to do right?
Which is why I really give a huge hand to those that do this as their primary shooting interest I don't think I would have the patience for it myself, and will gladly stick to landscapes and kids sports. So to all of you that do people portraits on a regular basis......
Thanks for looking and chiming in, I know there is a lot to be desired here, but figured I would go after the critique for when my other b.i.l. is expecting.......:cry

I know what it's like when you're in a difficult situation and you just can't seem to get what you want and you're not sure how to get your subject(s) to... do stuff (for lack of a better phrase!).
