    Hi Chris,

Very nice photos! I particularly like #1. You caught a nice moment, good light, friendly expression. It looks almost like he was engaged in something? a conversation with the audience? That's the feeling I get from that shot.

On the last shot, it seems that you missed the focus a bit. It looks like his shirt is in focus, but his head is not.

You read the first photo correctly:) He was talking to the audience about the next song he was going to sing and telling a bit of a story to go along with it. It was one of those "wait for the moment with the camera in my face" times. This was the best of a quick burst.

I think you are right about the last one.

    Thanks for the comment.

It could partly be motion blur on the third shot, because his shoulder in the foreground looks close to in focus.

You got nice light in these -- just the stage lighting, or did you pop a little off camera flash, too? (Especially the top one)

Seems like you were pretty close to the action :)

    Nice shots!

It was stage lighting only. I used my Olympus E-3 and the 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 wide open though. It was sort of an equipment test to see how well that setup would work for dim(ish) stage lighting. ISO on these was 1600. I was able to be in the front of the audience (I was asked to take pictures) and had some freedom of movement around the front of the performers.
