Trials-Small wall ride and some playing with flashes

Right near where we camped on our last ride I found a sweet little wall ride. I set up a Vivitar 285 on the left side shooting up to use as a side light and used an SB600 on camera to light up the face. This was my first try at using flash during full daylight trying to stop motion. I don't think I got it quite as sharp as I could of. I know I could have stopped way down but I wanted to retain the backgrounds of these images. Is it possible to get both? Stopped motion and backgrounds with some fill flash?

Here is a different spot but similar setup with the flashes. The Vivitar was off on the right side shooting up at the rider.

So what can I do better, besides practice a lot more?

All of these shots could have been improved....had the rider been on a Beta.:D

I've never tried a remote flash, so I can't help you out there.
