Actually, this is what I usually use as my lighting model ~ crafted by an American Indian

I, too, would like to hear a bit more about its origins.

While on a motorcycle trip through Colorado, we stopped at a nice little motel in Fairplay. It was a cool evening, and while checking in I made a comment to the man that something smelled good. A few minutes later a knock came on our door. I opened the door to a nice, smiling American Indian lady that was holding two cups of hot homemade soup.
We sat out front eating our soup and talking with this nice lady. She told us her & her husbands story about how they wound-up with the hotel. I had noticed some Indian jewelry & all kinds of artwork in the lobby. She stated that she made all those items by hand herself. I purchased several pieces from her that day & had them shipped home. (pictured is one of those items - I have a matching "Buck") She even signed them with her given Indian tribe name.
I don't know why, but any motorcycle rider will tell you this: When your on an out-of-state motorcycle trip, people will just open up to you in a way that I've never seen when traveling by car
That's how you really get a personal taste of this country, and the people there-in.
That's why items/art like this are special to me. It's like I came home with a personal piece of her life story, and I guess, mine too...
Thanks Andrew,
got ya' covered on the story on post #5
Indeed Michael,
Read post #5 for background info.
2 things.... on account of I'm such a fuss bucket.
Do you happen to remember what kind of soup it was?
And who is that mystery our person anyway.
And that's why I love riding a motorcycle. People seem to take kindly to the "whatever nature throws at me, I'm going to tackle it head on" attitude that motorcycle travelers have. It's such a great way to turn travel into an adventure. Truly indescribable to someone who doesn't do it.

Great story and cool shot.

Michael,
It was a chicken vegetable soup. Very unique and tasty.
Now your going to notice that I stated she had two cups of soup and there were three of us. That she did, but her husband brought the third.

Thanks Cory, and your spot-on
Your quite welcome Andrew
Nice.... chicken vegetable soup. A personal favorite. Its way cool to
run into such folks as you did and get to chat it up. Learn a thing or two
while your at it.
Ridding the open road... they tell me its nice on a bike. Especially with
good friends.
It is in fact...
IMHO, riding the open road on a bike is one of the last vestiges of old West type "freedoms" that we have left. I guess it's akin to a cowboy riding his trusty horse across the country. Unlike riding in an automobile, your actually "part of" the great outdoors & open road.
And this gives us the threads on advrider to deposit funny things said to bikers.
This is a beautiful piece of art

I recently saw some art very much like this in a big show I went to. The faces on the pieces were painted up very similar to what you have shot.
I'm not tryimg to heist your thread, but all this talk about bikes has got my blood flowing and I can't help myself. This is a picture of my trusty steed that has hauled me all over the place....my last journey covered 2300 miles and lasted 10 days. If I ever get out your way, this is what you'll see me come riding in on.
That reminds me, I registered on that board but have never logged in. I'd better get on it.
Thanks Mary. We enjoy it and the other pieces that I purchased from her.
I'll be looking for it over this way!
Now you did it... I have to post a couple of Ol' Yeller
Daayyyuuummmm, that's what I call a serious traveling rig. As my riding habits have changed....more long-distance rides.....I've considered getting a Goldwing. My wife would be more comfortable and, as a pure touring bike, the 'Wing is hard to beat. A couple of my riding buddies have them and I ride theirs on occasion. I'm going to take a hard look at the 2010 models and if I get one it will be YELLOW....beautiful to look at and people CAN SEE the darn thing.
Ride safe my friend,
Tom
