So did the name come from fossils that are found in the riverbed?

The name comes from the water being rich in minerals that create the travertine formations and the aqua colored water. Havasupai Falls and the creeks around Tonto Natural Bridge (largest travertine bridge in the world) are also rich in this mineral matter.
