Aaron these portraits are very cool! Nice use of the flash there. I notice it much more on your friends than I do on the log, but the light on that far rock is fantabulous.

Did you use it straight, or did you have a diffuser packed, too?

    Thanks Schmoo-

The idea of using flash in the landscape shot was for it not to be noticeable but still fulfill a shot for my 365 Project. The dead tree was in full shade and several stops different than the rock in the background. I set the flash 30 degrees to the left of the tree to match the angle the sun was shining.

In all shots the flash was handheld or propped via a back or other item and fired with wireless triggers. No modifiers were used just adjusted the head angle and power level.

What can I say. I used to be skinny. Aaron looks good on that rock.thumb.gif

I am not on a good monitor at this moment, but I would tone down the contrast and sat on lone rock (just personal taste)

Nice portraits there, old buddy. I've been playing around with flash quite a bit myself lately. It will be fun to compare notes when we hook up again some time soon (I hope).

    Cheers,

Nice work Aaron, way to get "The Light" on Lone Rock (that's exactly how I remember it) and the dead tree lighting looks good too.

The shot of Lake Powell is really nice. I love the glow on the golden glow on that distant rock. I'd suggest cropping the right side a bit to get rid of those branches that are sticking into the frame.
