Tri-Colored Heron Fishing

Several of the Heron species have a dance they perform when fishing. They spread their wings and run through the water looking for fish. Some people claim that spreading the wings scares fish to the surface, but others say that the shadow of the wing takes the glare off the water allowing the bird to better see the fish below the surface. Some observers say that the fish move into the shadow of the wings to get out of the sunlight. Whatever the case, it seems to work well for the birds.

Today, I found this Tri-Colored Heron doing the Fishing Dance.......
