Congrats on the D200! I would have framed the picture differently…

    …something like this, perhaps

…I was getting a bit confused there for a moment, but then perhaps so were you! (Great Minds etc. etc.)†

I think it works better in colour (just my opinion)… thumb.gif

Is what you have full color or desaturated? The image is wonderfully sharp, though.

Well, what I did was first take all the color out of it, then I just added a just started to gradually bring color in until I hit the affect that I was looking for. Is that what desaturation is?

My lens is the AF Micro- Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D. That would be considered a prime lens right?

I'm not sure about the crop or the DOF, desaturation is very attractive, and background is wonderful!

What is wrong with the DOF?

The top of the spike is more in focus than the bottom. I think that detracts. The fall off of focus is much too quick, IOW the DOF is far too narrow. IMO.

I think DOF is one of the trickier aspects of macro, at the scale of this image. It's the sign of an expert that they know how to calculate DOF (I don't, properly, yet).

Yes, I see what you mean. But if I opened it up more, the rest spikes would be in focus, which is not quite what I wanted. I also agree on the back ground. .........you know now that i have spent a few seconds on it, I think it would still have the affect even if the other spikes where in focus:D You are right on this one NeilLwings.gif
