back to the pitch
It has been a long time (or so it feels) that I have gotten to shoot a soccer match. Left work early to see my son's first high school game. The day was drizzling rain and gray clouds - no sun, tried to shoot around that, but can't say i'm too happy with what I got. Not the best of shots, critique if you like, I know they are sub-par, but I had to get the practice :dunno

it's not the size of the lens that matters... It's how you focus it.
aaaaa.... who am I kidding!
whoever dies with the biggest coolest piece of glass, wins!
Sean, thanks for the critique. I know that they weren't great, there were either too many buildings in bg or football players (2 teams practicing around the pitch ) I will be posting more as the season continues, although we are entering the proverbial gray period of the year here in the PNW. Games will be at dusk with little light and usually in inclement weather meaning I will have to use high ISO's which my Oly E-3 doesn't do so well. A lot of these are b/w ISO 400-640, the latter making them seem noisy if I am not shooting against a bright bg and right on top of the subject. I will keep posting and try again - next game is Monday eve.
Thanks for looking.

Great shots. Please tell me what shutter speeds were you using?
Regards
Bob
Thanks Bob, they really aren't that great of shots and I am not playing modest, these are just mediocre, many people get much better shots than these and I am ever trying to get better and shoot what I see posted elsewhere. I bought into a DSLR for the purpose of getting better shots of my son playing soccer, the old p&s just wasn't cutting it!
The shutter speeds vary as I was shooting on Aperture Priority - wide open. Shot # 7 for example I got at 1/400, while shots 5 & 6 were both at 1/1600. I was using a 50-200mm f2.8-3.5, the sun was in and out of gray clouds and it drizzled through most of the game, had a lot of changing light conditions, therefore I left the WB on auto (Oly's auto WB engine is usually spot on) and adjusted my ISO level to prevent shutter drag.
Hopefully later this season I will get a chance to post some better shots. Thanks for looking, hope the info helps.
