I hiked up to Andrews Bald in North Carolina Tuesday morning. I found the Flame Azaleas at their blooming peak...

Along a trail on top, two views of the Spruce & Azaleas...

I rode up the Blue Ridge Parkway a few weeks ago southwest of Asheville and encountered some of these flowers in bloom. Didn't know what they were, but made a beautiful picture:

Nice series! That 4th one evokes images of an "old forest" out of a fantasy novel.

Wow, that must have been pretty high elevation! Our azaleas flamed out a few weeks ago.

Incidentally, your sequence of pictures is very similar to one I posted on another forum on June 12!

    j.
I looked at the shots you posted on the other site... wow, that's uncanny.
It must be something in the air above 4000 feet that draws one to look at similar scenes.
I took mine on June 28th at 6080 feet, probably one of the last places the Flame Azaleas bloom in the Southern Appalachians. I can't get enough of the mountains here... I try to get there at least once a season.
