I love the expressions and poses you caught! What equipment/settings were you using?
Thanks. I use an Olympus E-3 & 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 (this combo is weather resistant - almost a must up here in the PNW!) all shot wide open on Aperture priority of course.
But more important at time than any gear/set up - since it's not really all the camera but more the photographer (good gear does help though) is position.
I will make this next statement with a Huge disclaimer as I don't know how long you have shot sports or to what level you strive to achieve &&&& the fact that I am still learning to improve myself and have a long way to go. Anyway, I have been shooting soccer for about 3 years now. I try to set up on the side or behind the opposing goal box (so I can see our boys coming and get some face). I also try to make myself aware of the background. If at all possible I try to shoot where there is little cluttering my bg as possible (not always possible though), a shot with nice golden fall leaves oof for your bg is better than light poles and cars . Also, I always shoot low....in this I mean that I am on my knees or lower. Usually you will find my sitting on my bum behind the goal box where the inner box line is (as long as the ref doesn't object), this angle gives you better looking shots and when your players are charging the box, you are shooting up at them, making them look larger.
Anyway, these are things I have learned - you may already know them and if so, disregard me, but thought I would share what I do and why - hope that is what you were looking for and sorry if it was too much.
You've got great timing. Especially #3. But, unfortunately they're all OOF. All are soft. : The JV ones especially.
Can't tell if it's a focus issue or SS issue.
Gene
Gene, I think it was a focus issue, I was using center spot AF, but was noticing that a lot of them were coming in OOF, I think due to the fast action and the players being quite a distance away from me, they weren't all as close as I wanted. The SS were b/w 1/500 and up. I am shooting today and will have to see if this problem persists, may be the way I have my piece set up......
I will post more in a day or two and we will see if I get that issue solved.
