Ucluelet Black Bears

Hey Everyone!

A group of avid wildlife photographers from Nanaimo spent the day on the West Coast of Vancouver Island photographing the black bears chasing spawning salmon at Thornton Creek.

I seem to have a really hard time photographing black bears well. They are either in direct sunlight and that oily black fur just blows out or they are in the shadows and just black blobs.

Here are some of the better shots...... (I am going back to try and do better as the salmon runs go well into November)

    The second shot is very striking.thumb.gif

    If you use Photoshop then try this.
    Use the "tonal contrast" effect. There is a free trial.

    I really like the closeup of the bear's face. It would be even cooler if shot from a slightly lower perspective (maybe not possible where you were shooting).
