How to sort by rating?

I shoot several soccer teams. The result of my work is a series of galleries (one for each player). When processing the images on my computer, I assign them ratings (1-5) in Lightroom. I'd like to find a way to present these galleries on Smugmug such that they are sorted by rating (rating #5 images first, rating #4 images next and so on) and within a given rating, they are in chronological order.
Unfortunately, Smugmug doesn't know anything about the XMP rating value so it offers no sorts at all for rating. So, I've managed to get a sort by rating by renaming the images upon Export in Lightroom to include the rating at the start of the filename (4-JF2_1234.jpg). I then sort by filename in descending order and I get a sort by rating. But, unfortunately, within a given rating the images are in reverse date order (because of the descending settings in Smugmug's sort to get the ratings in the right order). The problem is that now a sequence of images at the same rating will be in backwards order which is not what anyone wants.
So, I'm still in search of a way (on Smugmug) to sort galleries by rating and within a given rating have the images in chronological order. Manually sorting this many images is not practical. Any ideas?

My Gear List
Thanks for posting the question... I have been pulling my hair out to figure out how to do it. Sounds like a feature request. I don't like the idea of having to pad my filenames just to be able to do a sort. Count me in for another person looking for the feature.
