SDHC card - help out a Noob!

Hi everyone, just dipping a toe in the ocean of digital photography with a Nikon D60 and need help with an DSHC card.

I have bought a SanDisk 8GB SDHC card from Amazon but my D60 refuses to format the card. In the owners manual the list of "Approved Memory Cards" tells me that the camera will work with a Panasonic 8GB SDHC card. Shouldn't it work with the SanDisk 8GB SDHC card as well, or am I being really dim and missing something obvious?

Thanks.

The Nikon D60 is indeed capable of supporting SDHC cards up to 32GB.

Make sure that you have the most recent camera firmware. Try to format the card in a computer, making sure that you use an SDHC card reader. If that doesn't work, contact the vendor to make sure the card is legitimate. Contact Sandisk as well.

    Thanks, I'll do that thumb.gif

Update - Have checked on the Nikon 'site, no firmware updates available for the D60. Next step was to try to format the card with my iMac and my SDHC card reader doesn't seem to work (either with the new 8GB SDHC or with a 2GB SD card which I have tested as working with a regular SD card reader) so I have ordered a new SDHC card reader and will try to format the card once that arrives.

Sounds like a bad SD Card. Sandisk usually has pretty good stuff, but I'd call them for an RMA.

Make me thankful I went with Transcend when I bought 4 8G cards this past week. Although I still have 3 8G Extreme III cards.

No way, I have a habbit of loosing memory cards, so I like to have plenty of spares. Right now, I've lost a 16G Transend card worth $150 - needless to say, I don't buy 16G cards anymore!

    chipsets may be different.
    can you format on PC
does the card work in the camera, as far as storing photoes
worst case senerio, you will need to format on PC and work properly taking photos

I have a D50 and can not format 4g card in camera, but it works fine, over a year now and no data lost.
