Wondering if anyone had any ideas what to do with this picture, if anything? I like the detail of the moon but would like to make the camel stand out a little better.

What a great subject Caleb...unfortunately i do not have the skills to help you. I did brighten it up so i could see the camel quite well but the moon blew right out.

Someone in here will surely be able to help though.

I did a little fill flash on the foreground with Photoshop Elements:

Cool....so....how did you do that. I actually have Photoshop but no experience with it. Kind of like sitting in the cockpit of a 747 with a drivers license!

I used the Magic Wand tool - clicked it on the foreground and it made an almost perfect separation of the land and the sky. I could then work on the land portion of the picture without making any changes to the sky and the moon.

I used a little fill flash on the foreground to bring out some details. I then decolorized the foreground and saved the picture.

That was one of the few times I've been able to successfully use the Magic Wand tool.

and some selective adjustments. Could do a much better job on the original image...

    Image adjustments
    Hello,

Did you take the photo in RAW or NEF mode?

If so you could process the file twice, once for the moon and once for the camel and merge the two. It will give a result similar to some of those posted, but more likely with better detail.

CS2 has a feature called HDR which does this merging wonderfully.

If you are using a previous version there are many other ways of merging images.

    You might start with

    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital-blending.shtml

for a tutorial on these, although there are certainly dozens of other ways ou there.
