Animated Gif

I am trying to have an animated gif be my featured photo for one of my galleries. I can not remember how to make the animation come to life in the gallery? I have uploaded it and set it as the featured photo but it is static. When I click on the thumbnail in the preview area it will enlarge it and make it move. Question: what do I need to do in order to make the gif move in the featured photo area?
