And a random one
I got the new MP-E 65mm lens (some were shot with this, some with the 100 2.8), but...I'm honestly just too scared to get close enough to them to get the awesome close ups of the eyes... Some of these actually I turned live view on and just held the camera out, all the while keeping one eye on the spider and one on the screen. This is how it turned out.
C&C?
Thank you.

I think it is a barn or cross spider. Amazing how much they can shove into their mouths.
They always hurt me. Eating, not eating, sleeping or dead. They seem to bite me.
Any idea what the spider is eating?

This is a common garden orb web spider- Araneus diadematus- get quite big at this time of year but are not dangerous.
I've never been bitten or stung by any bug I was photographing.

yeah, both of these were huge!
Well I haven't been bitten yet photographing bugs or spiders, but I jump about ten feet back with the slightest movement from them... That's why I always put my camera strap over my neck when I'm doing this, incase I drop it.
I like the other ones (not on the web, however both were actually on their wb) because it's just kind of this creepy looking leg(s) coming out into the night. Like a monster in the dark slowly reaching out to grab you.

Haha, this I doubt. But thanks. Having being bit 26 times in one night...I think it's in place to be a life long fear.
Thank you. I have this weird fascination with shooting them and what not, but am deathly afraid of them. I just wish we had a bit more of a variety with colors and designs of the spiders/bugs in this area.

I'm in the same boat, wanting to get better at Macro photography and not especially liking bugs in general,
