Hello-
Just Bought 2 lenses 1=nikon af 50mm f/1.4D
and nikon Afs vr 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G

Problem:
I took Photos today with a d80 and a SB-600 Flash and switched between both lenses. I was inside a low lit house of a 2 year old's birthday. I had a real problem with camera shake when i was in aperture mode i tried low f-stops and high f-stops to get the shots. I increased the iso but maybe not enough, So then i had to put the camera mode in auto. Which is not what i wanted to do. I wanted to shoot all photos in aperture to blur background ect and get better photos. I had a tripod but because a 2 year old does not sit still it did not work . What can I do to get the photos in aperture without all the camera shake..if i had shot outside would this have been a problem(more light)? . ..please help thanx

maybe put it in manual and find the aperture you like then set your shutter/iso/flash accordingly? the "camera shake" sounds like to long of an exposure so a lower f stop would help and yes just more light in general is what you need it sounds like

Set your ISO as high as you can stand the grain. My guess would be 800 for your camera. Set your f stop one one above the lowest available for sharpness.
Ditto the manual mode suggestion for indoors...always.
Set your shutter speed on 160, metering on spot so flash will be in ttl mode.
Make sure your flash is set to 24mm and on 0 power. If necessary you can increase the flash power but you should not need to.
Now adjust your shutter speed as required to make the picture brighter or darker.
You can set your flash all the way up to 250 if you are still gettting blurry shots, then you may need to increase the flash power, but flash should freeze everything within reason at 160 and all the way down to 80 if nobody is moving and you are steady.

Tripods are a tough way to go, avoid if possible.
