September is quite the month for bicycling in Missouri. First up is the Tour of Missouri. Pro riders from all over the world participate in this week long event. This year the race started in St. Louis and finished up in Kansas City with a 7 lap circuit race. One of the features of the course was the climb up Summit street.

View down Summit. Quite a crowd!

At the top of the climb Summit crosses over Interstate 670. The overpass provides a nice view of the downtown skyline. Someone marked the pavement to make sure the riders knew which direction to look:

The course layout included several sharp turns. The turns kept the field stretched out, mainly single file:

Although there were several breakaways throughout the race, by the final lap, the field was back together as they turned off of Summit onto 14th street for the final time:

September is also the month for the multiple sclerosis charity rides throughout the state. This was my sixth year working as a volunteer for the Kansas City MS Bike Ride. My duties on Saturday gave me a brief window of time to get the camera out and shoot some pics!

This point on the route is the split between the 75 mile and 100 mile routes for Saturday. Riders just wanting to get done would head straight into Sedalia while riders wanting a bit more challenge would head South (a right turn in these pics) for a little extra mileage.

This one has a bit of lean to it... I kind of like it with the lean ne_nau.gif

Good to see all the smiles on faces! At this point they've already covered 65+ miles.
