I'm going to be talking to some potential clients about shooting some of their food at the end of next month. I've been practicing shooting some of the food I have been eating lately. Unfortunately the foods aren't the most visually pleasing. But I am no chef. Any C&C welcome. Especially if you have experience in food photography.

I can't speak from personal experience, but have been to lectures and seen talks about how the pros do it (did it 20 years ago actually), and was surprised to find that the stuff you actually saw in the glossy pics and on TV was in fact quite inedible, although it looked delicious; something to do with the food having to endure hours under studio lights maintaining its delicious "ready to eat" look, something which is quite impossible with real food.

Perhaps it's different these days (cool lights etc.) - perhaps someone in the biz will pipe up… ?
