i will start with a crab spider shot.

x5 mag, shot on finger tip. 4 frames focus stacked using zerene stacker @f5.3
resting lens barrel in palm of hand and sliding forward to shoot different focus points.
[ used f5.3 to reduce diffraction softening at high magnification]

What a great image. I have seen people use stacking techniques for macro on here for the first time. I must try and give it a whirl.

    Garden (Orb) Spider on Leylandii
Not in Phil's league cos I don't have the lenses or the skills (heheh) that he (and LordV) have, but here is a female Orb spider sat on a bit of a Leylandii branch - but had to do indoors to counteract the wind and rain in Preston tonight. She probably appreciated 10 minutes indoors before I put her back into the branches.

    C&C as always.

    Exif:

    Camera Make: Canon
    Camera Model: Canon EOS 450D
    Image Date: 2009:10:02 21:35:50
    Flash Used: Yes (Manual)
    Focal Length: 105.0mm
    CCD Width: 4.18mm
    Exposure Time: 0.0063 s (1/160)
    Aperture: f/13.0
    ISO equiv: 200
    White Balance: Manual
    Metering Mode: Spot
    Exposure: Manual
    Exposure Mode: Manual

    Paul.

Well done Paulclap.gif . I guess the indoor studio use was for your benefit thoughmwink.gif . The focus/dof are spot on. I guess this is s single image and not stacked.

    Paul,

Neither am I:D . I shall read about it though and might give it a whirl later. Its getting a steady shot of a mobile subject with different focus points that really has me wondering how they do it.

    Another orb spider
About all that is present in my garden at the moment.
So here is my first attempt.
I had just walk through his web and he had retreated to an arch above my head

Here is a fresh shot from today, and my first attempt at macro HDR. 5 bracketed shots, 1eV spaced, to capture the high contrast of the scene. Handheld and ambient light.

I shoud add few focus stacks next time, but still I do not get good results with that technique... headscratch.gif

Excellent shot, I really like it!clap.gif
Moreover, I think the out-of-focus elements of the spider harms give depth to the image, so that focus stacking would not improve the image in this case...

Shot this a couple of months ago. Does that count? <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/mwink.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >
The dragonfly is a Celithemis elisa, but I don't know my spiders. C&C welcome.

Great capture - for both of you:D.

The spider looks to be a hunting spider and was probably although I too have been unable to give it an ID for you. Perhaps someone else can.

Thanks, Peter. It looks a bit like a large jumping spider (the elisa skimmer is rather small), but I haven't had any luck finding anything conclusive.

It's been obnoxiously cold here in Boston for the past month or two, and I haven't come across anything interesting in a few weeks. But here's my favorite spider shot from the summer, an orchard spider (<i>Leucauge venusta</i>) from the end of August:

then added 2.0X II extender so 400mm, Iso 400 f18 flash 3/10 epo
would tubes be better? Is there a better way to get more magnification?

Due to an extreme fear of spiders and extremely cold weather here for the past few weeks, I will have to post one taken this summer.
