    Very helpful - thanks!

How would you compare them to the 5d2 and the 50d (since you have/have had both)?

Well, the boys practiced last night, outdoors and in virtual darkness, so I took some test shots.

300mmf4 attached to the 7D, I shot RAW/JPEG but since I have not yet updated to CS4 nor have I installed the new Canon software, I cannot convert the RAWs. I posted a handful of HIGH ISO shots in this gallery .

They are SOOC JPEGS and the originals are enabled so you can have a good look.

Let me know if you need further info.

How's AF? Fast/accurate enough? Did you use all those new fancy servo options?

AF is very fast without the TC! (no surprise really). I used AI Servo but not any of the CFns - and there are very few - I mean less than 1% shots missed due to mis-focus. That is way better than the 1dMkIIN. Impressive when you think about it.

    Better than 1DMkIIn?? eek7.gif Wow, that's something! thumb.gif
Looks like 7D just leveled playing field, so to speak. mwink.gif
I now wonder what are they (Canon) gonna put into 1D series bodies to justify the price difference... headscratch.gif

    thanks.

It seems to me (from all the samples I've seen so far) the 7D gets pretty soft after ISO 800. ne_nau.gif
    Unusable by ISO 3200.

I would't hurry to cast such type of a judgement just yet. The samples you've seen are not real life ones. They are for lab analysis, not for art critiques. Nobody in their holy mind would actually present this as their final work. The images can be cleaned up and sharpended, thus made useful. Considering the environement I took mines at (dark room) - three years ago you woundn't be able to capture anything at all at this level of darkness.
    "Unusable" - it's all in the workflow...deal.gif

I realize my shots are unprocessed jpegs, but the RAWs can easily have the exposure corrected and they are in focus. I expect they will be sharp too.

Divamum asked for samples that are underexposed, and these be them!

I have already learned not to base judgment on lab tests. rolleyes1.gif
