I spent some time today composing a little experiment I had wanted to do for awhile: a comparison of the very redundant 24mm focal length. I compared several apertures from 5 different Canon lenses. I put the results on a page on my site.

Thanks! I've never owned or used the 17-40, though I've heard good things about it. I suspect it would be very similar to the 16-35mm f/2.8. Unless the 2.8 aperture is something you definitely need, I would say it is a toss up. For landscape I generally use f/5.6-f/18.
