Tonights wedding, preliminaries
a few from tonight, edited some, well because I just can't wait to stick in my card and go through what I got. it's like Christmas!
anyway, third time second shooting, but it was a short deal, I was actually only there for an hour and a half. I kinda feel like i bombed this time, but maybe I need to step away for a bit and come back with fresh eyes. Also trying to find a style for this wedding, so let me know what you like and don't like.
Thanks!

A few others look a bit OOF though... As there is a difference between OOF and a blurry shot.

IMHO...the blurry one is just that, not to mention that guy in the background is blown out. Not to my liking...
And I'm not to fond of the pinkish look to some of the other shots.
Number 1 and 2 are nice...especially number 2...looks like a magazine shot...very cool...
Number 3 is a jumble of people...bride is hanging over her dress...and pinched in the middle...not flattering. The backs of too many people...
Number 4 is nice. I take it that there was a flash hidden behind the curtain...
Number 5 would have been much nicer if the angle was better...like I ask myself...who is the bride talking to...
8 has the shadows on the face...possibly from an off camera flash, or someone else's flash.
11, 12...a little too much angle...and 12 has the bride holding the arm from nowhere, the cake is completely gone...blown out...looks like you had way over exposure and tried to save it...did you notice that the brides arm is black from just past the wrist up...sort of looks like the hand is just floating.
11 would be much better, IMO, if you had cropped in more of the husband, an took out the scary woman on the brides right shoulder.
13 is nice...looks like you overexposed and turned up the black and colored to save it...but look closely...there is a dark spot on the brides chest...that doesn't look like a shadow.
14 of the table is nice.
16 is nice...goog capture.
Keep at it. You have talent.
Hope this helps...

As of course I am assuming these are without flash...
I don't think the D90 is up to that task, especially if you had to meter for ambient. Which means either all of your shots will be a bit soft, or OOF looking due to the high ISO necessary to capture images in this light.
I rarely diss cameras, but in this environment, I just know it cannot compete. Oh, and I do actually love the D90.
All that said. I think there is nothing at all wrong with your style here. What I think happened overall, just assessing from the info available, is you were stuck in a tight space with columns and people and trying to capture an event.
Question for you: Did you attend the rehearsal? I know things can and do seem to change overnight, but I always attend if they have one and thats when I pick thru my brain for angles, even taking shots to look at and debrief about the room beforehand.
That shot of the table and #2. are almost magazine quality to me. I say almost because I truly get fatigued with bouquets that do not cover the ends of the stems. (Either leave the stems totally alone or cover them).
Everywhere I look thinking I would suggest a different angle, I see columns( lemons)..you made lemonade I think!
The blurry one? No likey..looks like a still from a TV.
cheers,
Number 4: There were lights behind the curtains, they weren't my flashes. I had one flash, mounted on camera. but seemed almost ineffective as the ceilings looked like this:
sooc, likely a trash bin candidate, but wanted to show the ceiling
lots of lights above the bride/groom and officiant. (see the one in between the b&g? yeah i kept blowing out the officiants face) pretty difficult lighting conditions. This wedding might have been an instance where I would've wanted to gel my flash. But i haven't gotten into that yet.
5. I have a different perspective of this but I liked the bridesmaids expressions with hers as as well
8 is shadows from the grooms hat. again with the above spotlights...it was a quick capture, so not likely to have had the chance to put my flash underneath them to compensate for the hat shadows. As is, I like the expression and the moment.
here is 13 sooc. there was a mirror behind them, maybe casting light and causing shadows?? I thought the exposure was ok? I was just playing with some PP with it.
Anyway again thanks for the comments. I literally found out thursday that the main needed me for backup. I didn't get any sleep all week and I think that affected me. Eh well that's why i'm not a main shooter, huh?!
angevin: yup tight space for sure! I did have flash, but see above response. Maybe ineffective. and no i didn't attend the rehearsal. Got a text thursday from guy I shoot with: "you busy tomorrow night?" ha ha.
I just struggled, I was only there for the ceremony and a little afterwards. the last ones I've done i've been able to do getting ready shots, which i think help me build up the mood and feel of the wedding.
Candidarts, thanks for the comments.
