Does anyone make a RF shutter release for the Nikon D40x? I've search the accessories forum but can't seem to find anything. I found the IR one from Nikon but would like an RF shutter release.

Thank you!

Thanks Art! It doesn't look like it's compatible with the D40x. I'm starting to think there isn't one for the D40x. ne_nau.gif

Ethan, when I did ebay searched for ones for the D40/D40x all thoise said they were compatable with the D70 and 80 also...so I figured that they have the same connector for shutter releases.............ne_nau.gif
Might be worth dropping the seller a PM to see thomwink.gif....the Yong Nuo Brand from China seems to a very reliable brand and very well built.....I also use RF flash triggers by Yong Nuo.............

Edit: added link to RF wireless shutter trigger release stating D70s, 80 & 40X......I have no knowledge of product or ebay seller............

I just pick up the rf602 w/3 receivers, for my D90. The rf602 are the same unit for all the cameras, they just have different cables to attach to your camera. You need to check that the d40 has an external input.
The only thing as in another post is that when you do a shutter release and use the wireless flash, the flash timing is off. No flash effect in the photo.
I would still recommend them to everyone.
I used the shutter release tonight on bulb, and was walking around the yard firing my sb-600 manually at different parts of the yard using color gels.

ML-L3 will work with any nikon body, I dont have one, but was told that its a must have item.

I don't think the ML-L3 works with the D300 and up camera bodies. But I have one that I used with my D40 and now with my D90. It's great for $20, but if you have a radio shutter release I don't see why you'd need it as well. It has to be pointed at the camera more or less (from the front) and it sometimes just doesn't want to work and you have to wave it around to find a good spot where the IR beam will reach the camera sensor.

I just purchased a Yongnuo RF-602 trigger and four receivers from ebay. Haven't received them yet, but there's a huge thread in the strobist forum about them and the majority report is that they are a HUGE improvement over all other chinese ebay triggers that have come before. They operate at 2.4 ghz, work 100% of the time at distances over 300 ft, and have no problems transmitting through walls and such. A couple people have reported getting a receiver that didn't work on arrival, but the company replaced it for them. Everyone who got a working unit said that the performance was excellent. Contrast that with previous ebay triggers where it seemed they didn't work at all for half of the people who bought them, and the other half had various levels of reliability issues. Also, the build quality is said to be worlds better than the previous cactus, etc. triggers which felt like they might break if you looked at them wrong.

All in all, I cannot wait to get mine and hopefully will never have to use my cactus triggers again. I probably won't use the ML-L3 too much either after they arrive.

I forgot to mention, if you want to fire the camera AND off camera flashes, you just need to get two transmitters. One fires the camera via a receiver on its channel, then you put another transmitter on the camera set to a different channel and fire the flashes off of that.

Thanks I may try that, I thought that might work, but wasn't going to get another if I didn't have to.

According to several people in the thread on the strobist forum, it works. I think once I get my first set and try them out I'll probably order another trigger/receiver set. Even if I don't use it with the two transmitters that often it's still only an extra $40 and I'd have a backup transmitter and receiver as a bonus.
