Two nice shots, Karin - Second one isn't quite face-on , but what the heck...It's a nicely composed and exposed image.
The first I would have shot from the opposite side - that way we'd see most of the kid's faces, and have a bit better lighting...The story here is how the kids react to the fire guy....
Aren't you the one who took B.D.'s workshop? Boy, it really shows! You paid attention in class. Fantastic "getting close" shots! My favorite is the guy reading.
Great job, Virginia - Like just about everyone else, I think #2 is the strongest of the three shots - the expression is terrific. But all three are 'up close and personal,' which was the goal. And I am particularly impressed because I know that working this way is not your cup of tea.
LOVE seeing the results of this exercise, even though time-constraints kept me from even THINKNIG about trying it (I'm not sure if that was a blessing or not - on the one hand, I didn't have to get over myself and figure out how to brave the scary stuff; on the other, I feel like it would have been "good for me" and I'm really enying the results the rest of you got )

I've tried a number of times to get a good shot like this, but never got one this good. It speaks volumes.
I second Tina's point that B.D.'s workshop really helped you.
You (and B.D.) have inspired me to grab my camera and cane and go out and try again.
