I'm looking for some good software to make a catalog of the Original photographs I have available. Does anyone currently do this? I'd love to know what sort of program you use? I was looking to just put a PDF file on the CD but how do I protect the photographs so they can't be copied from the PDF file by somone who has Adobe Acrobat?

If you have the full version of Acrobat then you should be able to lock the files so they cannot be copied.....however just like the internet...if it can be viewed on your computer it can be stolen......it can be screen printed or lifted from the temp files and a thief is not worried about resolution............

Thanks for the advice Art. It looks like the best way to protect the images is to watermark them. But then again, it won't protect them totally, but at least the artist can have some sense of security as little as it may be. I can't think of any other way to market the pictures without having to Lug a bunch of prints around all day.

Actually it does impress a lot of people i talk to to see me with a leather portfolio even if it is battered an scuffed do to age...... especially when you open it and there is all that beautiful wonderful color......then you can leave behind a digital business card (CD....DVD)......I use a softweare called FLIP ALBUM PRO for making unique presentations.....the photos are arranged like a book and you clik or drap the page corner to turn the page......for your catalog this might be something to look at and it does have security measures.......

Thanks Art, I forgot all about Flip Album. I used to use them years ago, I'll have to take another look at them.

    Art,

I've been researching more about this idea and the general feeling around here is it's a great idea. You put a thought into my head though when you said you show up with samples and a CD catalog as a leave behind.

when you show the samples to the clients, do you have them framed or just matted? I'm toying with the idea of showing work but I'm not sure if I should frame it first or just mat them? If I sell a commercial client the work then I need to find a framer to have it framed or let them do the framing.
