So I Had to Work a Few Weekends ago...

Never got around to posting these, and figured I would.
Like the title says, I had to work again on Saturday. Work involved going up to Lime Rock Park, as a chaperone for the US Naval Submarine School Silver Dolphins Honor Guard, so they could present the national colors for the Pre Race National Anthem (for the 27th Annual Lime Rock Antique Festival). I am the Public Affairs Officer for them now, so if there are any events during my duty week, outside 50 miles from base, we have to go with them. What they do takes about a half hour all told, so the rest of the day was spent looking at vintage race cars, and getting rides in a few after the racing was over.
This was the showcase car for the day. Mercedes Benz W154 Silver Arrow. The car is virtually priceless. I'll let you guys read about it. Anyway it is about the loudest car I have ever heard. Pic's 1-10 are of it. Yeah I shot a lot of shots of it, but wouldn't you?

Also, here is video of the thing. When they first start it, I get all weak in the knees.

The open wheel car was terrifying, and has a pretty storied past, if you read the article. The Cunningham wasn't really a Cunningham, but a kit based on one. But man was it fast.

Great set of shots, interesting collection of cars, and really nice work! Hard to pick a favorite, although I've always been a sucker for a Ferrari, and the pair of 250GTs is sweet! Number 3, in B&W, looks like it could have been shot at the Nurburgring back in the '30s. And your guys look sharp presenting the colors, too!

Yeah that is exactly the look I was going for that Benz pic. That thing actually won a race in Poland the day WWII began. The story behind the car's journey to the Collier collection is pretty amazing. The only thing taking away from that shot is the driver. I wish he would have been in period race clothing, but I'm sure Lime Rock regulations say he has to be in Nomex, and modern helmet. I wanted to see him in a set of old goggles, maybe a leather helmet, and a white scarf. But this works.
And as far as getting out of bed in the AM, for this it was easy, I was already up that morning at 4am, down on the RI shore shooting landscapes, which are my real love in photography. I am up early quite a bit, just check my site. Most shots are sunrise shots.
