First Portrait Shots
I was at the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally last weekend and I took some portrait shots of Ken Block top rally driver from America. I got him to pose reading our South of Scotland Car Club newsletter.I took these with my 40D and 17-55 2.8. C & C more than welcome to improve my shots.

i would rank them in this order (better to...less better...hehe)
2, 1, 3
#2 has the best perspective and the (on camera flash, i assume?) isn't as harsh as #1. #1 is too straight on and harsh...very snapshot like rather than a portrait.
#3 looks soft to me and the focus appears to be on the car and not the subject.
overall, the lighting is the killer in these. the overcast sky isn't helping, plus on camera flash.
hope this helps a bit!
Your post is so nonchalant about it too. Need more of the car.

true...I recognized him from recent videos I've seen online...I don't follow racing (of any kind) much, but it's impressive to see someone with the opportunity to photograph him. his skills are beyond anything I knew existed for a driver.
Thanks for looking and replying.

You are lucky to have met him and considering how he's usually traveling at super fast speeds, nice job capturing him outside of his norm
A lover of all things photography.

#2 the skin tone seems off a bit. His face has a yellow tint on
my un-callibrated monitor.
#3 I think would look better with him in sharp focus instead of the car.

Thanks Natalie, I must admit it really was a great pleasure to meet him and he is one tremendous guy. He did a stunt display which was unbelievable which I will remember for a very long time.

Thanks for looking Charles. I totally agree the last image is the wrong way round. With regard to photo 2. Yeah it does have a very slight shade with it compared with photo 1.
