Okay.. I have set up everything that I could possible sell (extra camera and lenses) to put towards a new lens..

I see 3 different f/2.8 lenses.. but not sure which is the best to go for..

your help will be so much appreciated.... ;0)

In order of preference:
1) Canon
2) Sigma
3) Tamron

The Canon will accept your extender .....

If sports is your thing you should be aware the Tamron doesn't have anything like Sigma's HSM or Canon's ring USM focus system. So while the price is tempting I would jump up to the sigma. I shot for several years with an older version of the SIgma (non DG, non macro) and that lens worked great. It was about 90% of what the Canon is - Canon is a bit sharper and faster to focus in low light but just by a bit.


But if you're planning on using a 2x TC don't expect much from either. I'm not keen on the sharpness from either and focus performance takes a dive. A 1.4 works well, but not the 2x. Just my opinion though.

100% Correct.

You'd be better off looking at/for a 300f4, new , or used.

MUCH better IQ.
