Check out the video Vincent Munier made. Very nice stuff. He said he couldn't even see the bear in some of those photos/videos with his own eye because it was well after midnight when he shot it. Pretty wild.
ISO 200 - 12800 (ISO 100 - 102,400 in Boost mode)
Not bad, not bad.... Nikon finally got a hold of the high ISO game!
I wonder what's the Canon retort would be (in a year or so:-)

They seem to be taking 2 different paths, Canon is increasing their high ISO sensitivity but doing so with an increase in resolution, while Nikon has found a "sweet spot" and is using all these new technologies to push it to the max.
But looking at the D3x they also are able to play Canon's game, I think it's great they are not taking a head to head approach with many products that are a half step above or below in different ways. Just compare a 5D mkII and D700, both are great cameras but have a different "skill set".
I like to make pretty pictures. Maybe one day I'll be good at it.

Well I was saving for a D700 because it was close enough to the D3 s performance. Now Im thinking unless they come up with say a D800, I will be saving more for the D3S.
I would expect a D700s in the next few months. Watch for video and a slightly less hyped sensor. It will probably be something like $3700, though.
I don't see why it would be 700 dollars more, the D3s is about the same price as the D3 when it came out, and the D700 then launched a few months later at 3,000.
Wow, those samples images and video are amazing !!
Just when I thought my D3 was all I ever needed, this comes out...lol..
Not sure how much noise reduction was done on some of those photos in post, but the 6400 iso and 12800 iso images are game changing. Being a wedding photographer the more shutter the better.

I have to admit, the 12800 ISO is incredible and as you said, the more shutter speed the better for events, weddings....
I love my D3 for what it can do but more is almost always better

Apparently, it has a new sensor that's about twice as clean as the one in the D3.
Nice catch, thanks.

Just in case you missed it, these are the folks who helped to make the video:
Vincent Munier - Photographer - Videographer
Laurent Joffrion - Editor
"Special thanks to:
Philippe Chalouni, Augustin Viatte, Sébastien Bonneau,
Fernand Deroussen, Michel Munier
And
Sabrina Logeais, Ole Martin Dahle,
and the teams from Nikon France, Norway and Finland."
It takes a small army of people to make this sort of even simple promo video.
