Welcome to Digital Grin.
Sometimes the "search" function works really well…
…using "best" "flash" "diffuser"

As I'm sure you've already discovered, there are as many different solutions to this scenario as there are photographers attempting to solve it. My first choice for a diffuser would be the intesection between a nice white wall and a nice white ceiling, preferably to one side of me or the other. However, that doesn't often happen, so I'm particularly partial to the original Better Bounce Card - the one that a person could make for less than $0.25 each. These work quite well indoors but are particularly ill-suited for situations where there is not a nice ceiling/wall at hand. In those situations, like outdoors, a light scoop works quite well (see my signature for a link).
In addition to the link provided by Wil, there are a number of other threads here. As many like to say GIYF (google is your friend) will give you quite a list of options. I included Ziggy53 in the search criteria because I was looking for a specific thread ... and here's the link to the thread. This should give you a good start.

I absolutely love the Joe Demb Flash Difuser Pro. It is extremely versatile, light in weight and packs easily. Joe also provides personal responses to questions regarding his products. It is quite reasonably priced.

Joe's web-site also provides lots of good information regarding the creative use of flash.
