Bad News-My monitor has finally gone to the land of useless electronics--

Good News--Time to get a new and BETTER one--

Does anyone have a suggestion for size, brand, etc....

Yes--I have been reviewing online and through the forums--my head is spinning with all the info.

I know I want to go with an IPS panel and larger than a 20"

What I am looing for is informal down and dirty info of who is really using what and if they are happy with it?

Thanks-

Check Lacie. They have what could be considered the best LCD's for image editing.

How dirty you want me to be is related to your budget. What do you have to spend?

As most I don't have all that I want to spend---Those 2,500 and up sure are nice--although I can't justify...

maybe the low 4 digits or just under....

Take a look at Eizo. They make great monitors for your budget. Steer clear of the budget stuff.

Don't know about LaCie but if Sam recommends they are also worth looking at.

HP LP2475w ~ $550 USD in the USA
    - 8bit panel
    - 100% sRGB, 100% AdobeRGB
    - no internal LUT

Dell U2410w ~ $599 USD in the USA
    - there have been sales on this monitor that has seen the price down t $479 USD.
    - 10bit panel, 12 bit image processing
    - 100% sRGB, 100% AdobeRGB or close to it
    - no internal LUT

Note that both of the above monitors use a LG made H-IPS TFT LCD panel. A significant number of users have reported issues with a green/red-pink colour caste on a white screen; green on left, red on right. HP LP2475w user reports on this issue seem to have settled down - notably it has been on the market for several months. Dell U2410's, as it has just been introduced, are just starting to have users report the issue.

    NEC LCD2490UXi2 ~ $1200 USD
    - this is the second generation of this monitor; the first generation featured an "A-TW" filter/polarizer that claimed to give it "True Whites" (maybe they mean whites without a green/red caste !)
    - it also uses a H-IPS panel supplied by LG but there have been few if any reports of colour castes with the unit.
    - there is a Spectraview version that comes with it's own hardware calibrator capable of writing to the look up table (LUT) internal to the monitor. It is a couple of hundred $$ more.
    - 8bit panel, 12bit image processing

Eizo > from $1000 to $2000+ depending on size & hardware
    - most units now use S-PVA TFT LCD panels; available
    - 8 or 10bit panels, 12 or 14 bit image processing

Lacie > from $1000 to $4000 depending on size & hardware
    - most newer units use S-PVA TFT LCD panels
    - 8 or 10bit panels, 12 or 14 bit image processing

@newsy, what a fantastic overview. Hope they make it sticky - at least for a few months.

A less expensive option is a Dell 2209wa

I've had mine for a little over a month and am quite pleased with it..

    Calibrated with a Spyder3 Pro...

    Paid ~$400 Cdn.

    Cheers, Don
