Hi,

I'm rather new to photography as a profession - though it's been a hobby for quite sometime.

Enough about me. Let's talk about me...
(sorry, it's late, I have an 8 month old who never lets me sleep and I'm a little goofy)

I have an opportunity - if my interview goes well, to do photography for a movie premiere. Basically taking photos of the guests as they arrive.

I know NOTHING about movie premieres, what they look like, where they are, blah bity blah. Indoor photos, outdoor photos, technique etc etc etc

It's for the movie "Precious"

Does ANYONE have experience with this sort of thing? If so, can you give me a clue? Please? Thanks.

Marketing firm likes my work and knows I am newer to the game, they are actually looking for newbies - good portfolio builder I suppose.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Ham

This is a paparazzi type gig. Overall it is pretty simple. Bring plenty of batteries for your flash. You will want a nice medium zoom 28-70mm. You should have 2 bodies equipped with flashes. Put a nice diffuser on the flash.

Think about the kind of stuff you see from the Academy Awards ceremonies, or Cannes Film Festival - a premiere won't be as snazzy as that, but the "red carpet shots" style will likely be what they want of people arriving in limos, walking in to the theater under the marquee, signing autographs, waving to fans etc etc.

Perhaps google around for pictures of celebrities attending opening nights of both movies and theaters for examples? Maybe start with Princess Diana (simply because tons of examples, even if they're out of date), and all the "it" Hollywood people who the 'togs always try to catch at openings - Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Spielberg, Lucas, Beyonce etc etc. That should give you plenty of examples of "what type of shot", then you can figure out *how* to get them and what gear/techniques you'll need to use.

Good luck - sounds like great opportunity!
