Changing custom domain

I currently have my SmugMug site set with a custom domain name. I'd like to change it to another custom domain that I own (both names are through GoDaddy). Do I need to delete the CNAME info from the current domain name before I enter the information into the new domain name? Is there an issue if both domain names have the same CNAME info? Ultimately I'm going to set the current domain name to simply point to the new domain name.

Remove domains.smugmug.com from the old name and add it as a CNAME to the new domain.

Then go to Smuggy CP, domain field, and add the new domain.

Will there be a lag? i.e. if I take the CNAME off the current domain name and put it on the new domain name, will there be a period of time where the current domain is no longer working and the new domain hasn't worked its way through the GoDaddy system?

With Godaddy, it's usually a matter of minutes to < 1hr....

I have "myname1.com" registered through godaddy and set as my domain name. I want to change it to "mynewname.com"

Do I have to register a brand new name? Will godaddy let me change it without cost?

I believe you will need to register a new name. Once you have done that follow the link that mbonocore posted above for instructions on changing the domain name for your smug account.
