Grimace's Unofficial Shootout MN to ME

I was very excited to hear this year's DGrin Shootout was going to be in Maine. It's a place I've been wanting to return to for over 12 years and the drive from MN to ME offers thousands of possibilities.

However, a month before taking off I had to pull out due to a job opportunity. As luck would have it, things didn't work out so I packed my bags and decided to crash the shootout as an "unofficial shooter".

Once I reached the east coast I started to get pumped for Maine and to see some old DGrin friends but lady luck was not on my side.

While I was in Connecticut I suffered an accident and broke my ankle, three toes and damaged my Achilles tendon (still waiting on my MRI results).

I did make it to Bar Harbor and attempted to shoot in Acadia but as most of you who attended know, it's hard to get around on the slick rocks and trails under normal conditions. Add in crutches and it makes it even tougher.

So, with this in mind, here's a few of my shots I took on the way out and a few taken from the car window in Maine.

P.S. A special thanks to Davev and Katev for sacrificing a day's worth of shooting to sit in a doctors office waiting for me to get checked out. You two are very special friends!!

Adam - I am really glad that we got to see you guys, even if only briefly!
Your photos are great! And here is what kills me - you get shots when you are on crutches that I only imagine getting! eek7.gif

Wow Grimace! Incredible captures and such a range of venues. Love that first one - great timing and composition. The young amish and the older farmer are also spectacular.
I was sorry to hear/see what happened to you in chasing the waterfall. Terrible way to end a great trip.
    Hope you get better soon.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

I just found out this evening I'll be going in for surgery on Friday. Based on what the doctor said it will take 6 months for everything to be completely back to normal.

Fabulous series of image, Adam. How do you get your color balance so perfect in every one of your shots? Blows my mind. Such beautiful and thoughtful compositions too. You totally rock. bowdown.gif

Sorry to hear about the ankle though. I'm sure there's a good story there. Knowing you, it doesn't surprise me to see you out on the rocks with your leg in a cast and on crutches. But for anyone else that would be insane. Best of luck with your surgery and recuperation.

    Take care,

Adam, I'm so glad you were able to make it out east and spend at least a day with us (though you were hiding from me 'cause I didn't see you).

These pics you got are packed with awesome. thumb.gif Just fantastic stuff.

Hope the surgery goes well. I prescribe some eagles to aid in the recovery. deal.gif

Joel, thank you for the kind comments and warm wishes. I adjusted the WB in camera a few times and bumped up the contrast and saturation +1 in the lanscape mode.

I wish I had some crazy or heroic story to tell you on busting up my ankle but I don't. It just plain gave out on me. I'm just glad it happened in Connecticut and not on my way to The Wave or Havasupai. mwink.gif

Surgery went OK and I'm just waiting for the green light to start rehab.

Super! Get back on two feet as soon as possible. Rehab will make you hurt again. I can tell you from recent experience.

Hope so. Then I can link my own eagle images in my local forum instead of someone else's. mwink.gif

One of my favorites is the photo of Geno's in Pennsylvania. You sure made the best out of a bad situation. Nice shooting.
