I shot a wedding at White Sands this weekend. I was a little worried about the backlight situation at first, but I think the set turned out pretty good. I've only edited a hand-full of the pictures, but here are some of the better ones.

C&C welcome...

12. I've been wanting to try this shot for a while - I think it turned out decent considering it was dark at the time!

#12 would be even better without all those footprints.

I think you did a great job. Can I just say this? Numbers 3 & 4 are pretty damn cool.....Uber Coolness! Either could be an album cover! thumb.gif

I climbed those dunes when I was 12 and it wasn't easy then. I can only imagine trying to get the groom and his party up there in dress shoes and suits......WOW!

Me too, climbed the dunes...I was considerably younger than 12...and I remember the winding mountain roads...

Very nice work considering the bright white background.

And, yep, we took a sample of the sand back home, even though it's discouraged...

    Thanks for sharing...

Great work! I know it must have been a bit nerve-wracking to have your cameras in that much sand. My only thought would be to scale down the vignette a bit. It's too strong and almost distracting to my eyes.

    exposures, gear
WOW-- great exposures, really, especially when considering the back lighting. Did you use spot metering to get the exposure right? How did you protect your gear? --Lisa

I don't think you ever will-I think it is a restricted fly zone. Lots of missle testing in the area. The first atomic bomb went off about an hour north of here.

By the way, this photographer is my son that just got engaged. there is another thread on that.

    Nice work, Dawson!

Beautiful shots. White Sands is a pretty special place with great light quality. Very ethereal at dusk. You've certainly captured it, and the event, well.

I've had family in Las Cruces since 1947. My uncle worked at the missile range and later was in the astronomy department at NMSU. I've spent many many hours at White Sands over the years. First time I've seen a wedding there though!

Lovely set, a few where she almost blends in with the white background, but I think you did your best given the circumstances.

I gotta say though, #10 is just amazing, that background color really is something, love it.

Wow that is a tough spot to shoot.
I like 4, the lighting in that one really works.
Also 10 nice romantic well lit shot.
I think you did pretty well for such a tough location.
Looks like the people were having a great time.
    Nice job.

These are really cool - nicely done! White sands is in New Mexico? I'm also curious as to how you managed to protect your gear out there.

Yea, White Sands is in New Mexico. If you've ever been, you'll know that between the dunes the sand is quite a bit harder than normal "beach sand". The ceremony, or towards the back of it, was mostly harder sand, so I didn't worry about my gear much. I'm pretty careful with my gear normally, so I guess I wasn't thinking about it too much thumb.gif

Thanks for the comments everyone. I was surprised that not many people commented on #11. I thought this was one of the best of the set. Any comments or criticisms on how to make that one better? I'm using this for my Facebook fan page now...
