The Isle of Portland lies south of Weymouth in the County of Dorset. You may have heard of Portland stone. It is still quarried here. this view, taken from the top of the hill on Portland shows Chesil Beach sweeping off to the left, the causway and bridge connecting Portland to the mainland. Chesil Beach is some 18 miles long and comprises pebbles raised to a height of about 30'. You will note the water between Chesil Beach and the mainland on the left of the image, This is called Fleet Lagoon. It is about 8 miles long. The lagoon is an important place for wildlife and is protected.

To the right of the causeway is Portland Harbour. This area is to host the sailing events in the 2012 Olympics.

Portland lies in the middle of what is called the Jurrassic Coast. Many people come here to go fossil hunting.

Now for the techy bits:

The panorama was created by merging 12 separate photographs, each taken in the portrait orientation. The reason for this was to get more depth to the panorama. Focus and exposure were set then locked for all 12 frames. This was to avoid strange effects on the combined images where focus and brightness can cause real problems. The equipment used was the Olympus E3 and Zuiko 12-60mm lens set at 12 mm.

I hope you like this image but please give me feedback on what you think. Constructive critism is always welcome.
