Session shot with my new lens

I met this family about 2 hours from Terre Haute. This was my first session using the new Sigma 24-70 2.8 lens. I've got to say I'm very pleased with the results I'm getting. This was also the first time shooting a family with such a variety of skin tones. I shot this in RAW so that helped me to recover some loss of details when the exposure wasn't quite right.

Thanks for looking everyone. I know I don't post or comment often. October has been very busy so I should be on here more in November or so.

First things first - Wow, you hit that one out of the park, didn't you?

Second, he's a very lucky man. Beautiful children and a gorgeous wife. Life doesn't get any better than that!

I'm really liking #3 and #4! The light is sooooo perfect!

#7 - I might be tempted to clone out her thumb

#8 - Just re-crop this so the "cut off limbs" look intentional. You have lots of options with this because you have a lot of background area in the photo.

    Nice job!

Thanks Scott. We were very limited on where we could go because we had heavy heavy rains that flooded the park where we intended to go. I suggested doing a "in the city" session instead and i worked out very well.

I will take your advice on the thumb and intentional crop. :)

    Thanks for your advice.:D

Nice job. I take it you're VERY happy with your new lens?

Love subjects and nicely done - esp. with the little 'fixes' Scott suggested.

    Julie,

Very nice. I've been using a nikkor 24-70 f2.8 for the same purpose. It never leaves my camera.

I've also used it for portrait work...love it.

You kicked it up a notch with these shots.

Really nice job. 3/4/7 are my faves from the group.

#1 seems a little tilted to me for some reason.
#2 Feels too green. Perhaps more sepia would work with the texture more.
    #3 !!!
    #4 !!!
#5 Nice shot, but the younger is partly shadowed in the face by the older.
#6 They look tilted and the one in red tones looks very forced.
    #7 !!!!!!!
#8 cute but not as nice as the other stuff.

What a gorgeous set of pictures!

The camera loves the girls; they really sparkle!

Love the colour of their outfits in #5 & #6…

    Nice job!

PS: #5 crop tighter to get rid of wall texture (patterns and spots on wall distracting)
#6 has a white thing in the background which being horizontal is interfering with the shirt pattern & collar & shoulder line of the two girls; also they seem to be leaning back in this picture; I'd try to crop narrower, but leave the background (nice OOF effect), perhaps even straighten up and trim to the left (use clone perhaps?)

I agree with everyone else, great photos thumb.gif

I'd be interested to hear what kind of editing you did to them.

My usual editing process is a free action from coffeeteaphotography.

But what I do is usually a "skin fix" which mean I slightly smooth the face, run that portrait action, high definition sharp set to 25% opacity then do a very slight vingette.
