Today on my lunch break I am going to take a walk to BH, the awesome part of working in Manhattan, and I want to purchase an off camera flash for my Nikon D80. I want it to be able to work on the camera, last time I bought the wrong kind and it only worked off camera, I want the versatility. Is the Sb-600 the one for my camera? I've been looking and it appears to be that one, just wanted some advice to see if that is a good one. I know the newer ones are about $600-900, something I just don't have to spend on camera gear right now. Any thoughts?

Also take a look at the Sigma EF 530 DG Super flash in Nikon mount. Full i-TTL support and a feature set similar to the SB 800/SB 900 flashes with nearly the same power output but at a price more similar to the SB 600.

The SB Nikon flashes do have a better build and nicer user interface, but the Sigma flashes are not so bad and in a power to features to cost relationship they cannot be beat.

I use 4 of the 5xx series Sigma flashes and they work nicely for me.

I am not sure of the capabilities of the D80.....the SB600 should work fine or even a Sigma 530 DG (ST or Super) but seeing that they have risen greatly in price If I could afford the Nikon SB900 I would get it. It is twice as much as the sb600 but it has many many more features from what I have heard .....on here and at Nikon Cafe ......

Any of the above listed flashes will work On camera as well as off camera with an off camera cord..........

If your on a budget, get the 600, it will work with the D80 CLS system, a cool added feature(wireless mode). The Sigma Super will work also, but I understand you have to program it on the camera, than fire it remotely, and if you change settings, reattach it to the camera.
