Full frontal GBH & overheads

Ok I got a frontal snowy, so the gods of Nikon were smiling on me and gave me a full frontal GBH

and then without a sound or so much as a thank you this fella decides to do a fly over, and the machine gun goes rat...dat.....dat and he's mine :D

    How does the machine gun focus before the bird is half way to the east coast?

    I could do that, if my "gun" would shoot. Won't.

    Wonder if the F5.6 400 would.

    Do you literally raise your camera to a flyover like that and have the lens focus?

    Which lens?

    Also, was the EV compensation setting the same for both shots? Also, what F stop? You have enough DOF for the eye plus.......the whole bird.
