I recently made a trip on hwy 101 from the San Francisco bay area to the Astoria area in Oregon.

The weather started out great but the gods decided that most of the trip would be overcast and raining.

So we start in the redwood's of northern California. If you ever get the time to take the "Avenue of the Giants" through this area do it and take your time.

Lie the tomb stones,
Pleading remember me,

Sunrise in Crescent City Harbor.

Just north of Crescent City is Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. I found this in the park.

Scar a past,
graffiti a gift of hieroglyphs,
to an indifferent audience.

Moving on into Oregon,

Just South of Coos Bay, OR
Is Sunset Bay State Park. I got one of the few sunsets I saw on this trip. It lived up to to it's name sake.:thumb

Patience is a photographers friend. I did the stupid thing and left to early. On the way back to Coos Bay. I had to pull off the road to get this.

Just north of Lincoln City, OR. The Nature Conservancy has the Cascade Head Preserve. I spent a few sunset's and sunrise's here.
Hint: the walk in from the upper entrance is much easier!

The path you take,
Littered with cast off hopes & dreams
ground to mulch the trail you leave.

A flat ocean and over cast sky's turned into this.

At the Edge,
Where the oceans meet.
Is their a line to blur,
or is it in your imagination?

Evening settles over Lincoln City.

Just after it rained I found natures sand castles.

This one looked to me like a bone sticking out of the sand.:scratch

with a sweep of illumination,

Refuge,

pulling you to an unknown.

    What beautiful photos thumb.gif

I liked them all, but the one with the blue water meeting the sky is so simple and something I remember from my visits to the ocean. You may of had rain and clouds, but it gave you some wonderful sunsets.

Wonderfu series of photos that you've shared with us. Thanks :D

Thank's for you comments mary. The light for the one with merging sea & sky was very defuse and made discerning the "border" between sea & sky something you had to concentrate on to see.

What a great series. I especially like the last one. The colors and the silhouettes are awesome.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.
captnemo, The morning I left crescent city they had a longboard surfing comp going on at south beach. I wish I had more time that day. It's not the kind of thing you can just drive by and not take any shots of.mwink.gif It ended up making for a very long drive home.

Don these are just fantastic and I also love the series because I love that route. I have not been quite as far as this (only up to Brookings) but the gems you captured along the Avenue and beyond are breathtaking.

Crescent City in particular! It was a soupy, foggy mess when we were there. Obviously great weather follows you around, no matter what you say. ;)
