Hwy 101
I recently made a trip on hwy 101 from the San Francisco bay area to the Astoria area in Oregon.
The weather started out great but the gods decided that most of the trip would be overcast and raining.
So we start in the redwood's of northern California. If you ever get the time to take the "Avenue of the Giants" through this area do it and take your time.
Just north of Crescent City is Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. I found this in the park.
Scar a past,
graffiti a gift of hieroglyphs,
to an indifferent audience.
Moving on into Oregon,
Just South of Coos Bay, OR
Is Sunset Bay State Park. I got one of the few sunsets I saw on this trip. It lived up to to it's name sake.:thumb
Patience is a photographers friend. I did the stupid thing and left to early. On the way back to Coos Bay. I had to pull off the road to get this.
Just north of Lincoln City, OR. The Nature Conservancy has the Cascade Head Preserve. I spent a few sunset's and sunrise's here.
Hint: the walk in from the upper entrance is much easier!
A flat ocean and over cast sky's turned into this.
Just after it rained I found natures sand castles.
This one looked to me like a bone sticking out of the sand.:scratch
A sea geyser
A last couple of shots back in Crescent City of the Battery Point Lighthouse.

Along the ribbon of asphalt,
Lie the tomb stones,
Pleading remember me,
Pleading remember me,
As the giants watch the Eons pass.

The path you take,
Littered with cast off hopes & dreams
ground to mulch the trail you leave.

I liked them all, but the one with the blue water meeting the sky is so simple and something I remember from my visits to the ocean. You may of had rain and clouds, but it gave you some wonderful sunsets.
Wonderfu series of photos that you've shared with us. Thanks

Thank's for your comments Alvin.
Thank's Adam, The keeper rate was low this trip. But anything more then 1 is great.
I can't wait to get back and get some sunrises/sets. Crescent City light house is great for pictures! Love that drive

captnemo, The morning I left crescent city they had a longboard surfing comp going on at south beach. I wish I had more time that day. It's not the kind of thing you can just drive by and not take any shots of. It ended up making for a very long drive home.
I use a canon 5D.
Crescent City in particular! It was a soupy, foggy mess when we were there. Obviously great weather follows you around, no matter what you say.

I did this in 8 days. It's not enought time to do this trip justice. But ya work with what you have.
