You know, I also have to go with #1. I think if you could reshoot and try to avoid some of the glare (although, it seems like it works in a way) and work on the levels/curves a little bit, this one could be strong.
All those individual bugs in their small individual boxes... and it just goes on and on and on extending out of the frame on all sides... it just does it for me much more than #2 (bw and color).
Thanks for all the comments everyone. I sorta knew that eventually someone would show up with a dissenting opinion about #1. There's a possibility I could do something of a reshoot of either depending if the same vendors are out and similarly cooperative.
The hard question is whether to keep going with these or move on. I, of course, have halloween in Shanghai to look forward to this weekend. Which could prove interesting. Doubtful I'll get anything particularly creepy or crawly, but I'd lay odds on something humorous.
Here are two reworks of #1 in B&W and colour with some more aggressive PP. Worth sticking with it?

Creepy and or crawlier enough?
The color does the trick in this one. Definitely gives one a sense of "ewwwww".

I vote for the color version of the worms too---anyway to get a shot with someone's hand immersed in the wormy goo? Just a thought.

FWIW, the theme is creepy OR crawly. I think #2 color version fits the second theme perfectly. No need to go overboard ...
Sorry, Mark. My mind sees Creepy or Crawly as Creepy AND Crawly. Even after I have a good idea, it is still working on both options. :bash :oogle
This is me telling my brain to stop already!
