I'm really want to like this for some reason, but it isn't really moving me. I think with all those lines from the steps, I feel obligated to like something geometric here. Sorry.

Just admit it Andrew, you are a streetlight hater :lol4

I totally get that, Andrew. I've been skipping over this picture in Lightroom for months because I liked it but it just didn't move me. I decided to go ahead and process it today and see what happened. I think maybe some more extreme processing might help out but I don't know much about that side of the world.
Perhaps Randy and I have more in common today than first thought?
I wonder if this would work better in B&W? The subject is rather muted in its colors compared to the sky, the grass, and the rails. The blue rails, by their color, link to the blue sky, which I find distracting. If you want to try a B&W version, I suggest amping up the contrast a bit.
I can see what Andrew is saying about wanting to find something geometric in the lines in the lower part of the picture, but I actually like that part precisely because it's kind of messy. It's a bunch of straight lines tangled up with each other, and out of that arises that one strong, straight vertical, the streetlight, on the base of the stacked horizontal steps.

Thanks for the suggestion, Craig. I'll work one up this evening and post it for comparison.
I took your suggestion to the extreme, craig. Here's my take on a B&W version of the light. I do find it more interesting I must say. Thanks for the advice.

It is even more odd that I took this shot months ago and just happened to process it today. Something in the air, perhaps?

Got bored with digital and went back to film.
Bugs: Pardon me again, Doc, but just what did you mean by that crack about the Earth being gone?
Marvin: I'm going to blow it up. It obstructs my view of Venus.
Bugs: It does? That's a shame.
