Dung fly (?) sleeping...

Was in the garden because I had opened the back door to let the cat come in and as I often do, had a stroll around my little plot.

Asleep, I assume, on the end of a wooden clothes peg was this (what I think is a) dung fly. I say asleep, because I assume even flies have to shut their compound eyes and catch 40 winks. I had to move the peg from the awkward position off the ground and luckily the fly stayed where it was. (Soundly asleep?)

I stuck the other end of the peg into the hole on the bottom of an upturned plant pot and stood it on the wheelie bin. The background is the garden fence (cuprinol brown). Ring flash used.

It was still perched there when I took the camera gear back indoors.

C&C as always encouraged.

Good capture Paul - Yes it is a dung fly. Unusual to get one that didn't mind being moved - was it fairly cold there ?

Yes, it was quite nasty last night. Wind was up a bit and chilly with it too. I ws very careful when lifting the peg though - I was surprised it didn't diappear even as I touched the peg tbh.

    It's not there today though.
